A Swedish man is suing his old employer in Clarks Summit, claiming the company fired him after he was injured in a car accident, then notified the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm to have him sent back to Sweden.

The suit, filed by Scranton lawyers Michael J. Foley and Paul Jennings, claims Sandvik Materials Technology wanted Johan Alpensjo out of the country to “sever his eligibility for workers’ compensation benefits …”

Calling the conduct “manipulative and ruthless,” a workers’ compensation judge in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., found that a Scranton-based employer forced an injured employee out of the company and, ultimately, out of the country.
