Thomas J. Foley, III
Prior to being admitted to the bar in 1982, Thomas J. Foley, III graduated from the American University in Washington D.C. (Bachelor of Arts, 1979, Economics and International Studies), and the University of Pittsburgh (Juris Doctorate, 1982).
Following his graduation from law school in 1982, Mr. Foley served for two years as a Law Clerk, first to President Judge James C. Crumlish, Jr., of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania, and then to Justice Nicholas P. Papadakos of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. After completing his clerkships, Mr. Foley joined the Dilworth, Paxson Law Firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was a member of the litigation department, and became a partner in the firm. While at the Dilworth Firm, Mr Foley primarily litigated complex business and contract cases, including cases involving construction contracts, corporate takeovers, law firm breakups, oil lease royalties, and executive employment contracts. In 1991, Mr. Foley decided to return to northeastern Pennsylvania with the Foley Law Firm to open the firm's Stroudsburg office.
Among his noteworthy accomplishments, Mr. Foley successfully tried an unusual case which resulted in his client being awarded one half of a $4.4 million Pennsylvania Lottery jackpot, the winning lottery ticket having been jointly purchased by his client and another person, but which had been claimed by the other person to be his alone. The case was the first of its kind in Pennsylvania, and it received a great deal of media attention. It also received attention in the legal community and resulted in his being invited to lecture on equity practice for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the educational arm of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Mr. Foley also has been selected by Philadelphia Magazine as a "Pennsylvania Super Lawyer" every year since 2004. He is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
Mr. Foley is admitted to practice before the courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as well as federal courts, including the United States District Courts for the Middle and Eastern Districts of Pennsylvania, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Foley also is a member of the Lackawanna County, Monroe County and Pike County Bar Associations, the Pennsylvania Association for Justice (Section Memberships: Auto Insurance, Workers' Compensation, Insurance Bad Faith, Medical Malpractice), the Pennsylvania Bar Association (Section Memberships: Civil Litigation; Workers' Compensation), The American Association For Justice (Section Memberships: Motor Vehicle Collision, Highway, and Premises Liability; Insurance Law; Workers' Compensation and Workplace Injury); and the American Bar Association (Torts and Insurance Section).
Mr. Foley is a member of the Board of Governors of The Pennsylvania Association for Justice, has served as Vice Chair of its Judicial Relations Committee, and is currently Vice Chair of the Amicus Curiae Committee.
A tireless advocate for the rights of his clients, Mr. Foley handles serious personal injury, motor vehicle accident, premises liability, workers' compensation, and business and contract litigation cases for the Foley Law Firm.
